State Seizes Schmidt’s Bakery in Loveland

When it rains, it pours. First, it was Beach House and Armadillo. Then it was McCoy’s. Now Loveland’s popular Schmidt’s Bakery has closed its doors indefinitely.
The Loveland Reporter-Herald reports that the landmark bakery closed on Tuesday. A sign in the window simply reads “SEIZED” in large letters. Apparently, the bakery currently owes over $40,000 in unpaid taxes. And this isn’t the first time Schmidt’s has faced this problem.
The closure by the state is the third for the German-style bakery and deli in the past three years. The first two seizures, in March 2010 and March 2011, were resolved after a few days.

Do you think this is “strike-three-you’re-out” for Schmidt’s? Or do you think they’ll find a way to re-open a third time? Sound off in the comments below!
