I used to live in Fairbanks, Alaska, and can remember temps getting down to about -40 for days on end. But Alaska doesn't even make the Top 5 list of coldest places on the planet.

This is my attempt at making our bitter cold temperatures feel tropical. There are places so cold that it defies all odds and will even freeze birds at night.

When I was in college in Fairbanks, Alaska, we used to take hot water and throw it out a window on the 3rd floor of our dormitory and it would crystallize before it hit the sidewalk. Of course, that is extreme even by Alaskan standards. I have been in temps though up there as a young man where you can't expose your skin for more than a couple minutes, tops, or you will regret it.

Shoot, we would go snowmobiling at -22 just for the fun of it and our favorite thing to do was try and BBQ at -10 or better. Any idea how long it takes to cook a steak at that temp? For all I know, they may still be on the grill!

The moral of my story...it's not that cold.  Of course, I was in my early 20's then so what am I talking about. GOOD LORD IT'S COLD...COME ON SPRING!
