Larimer County Emergency Services staff will burn slash piles at Carter Lake County Park on Tuesday, November 8, 2011. Slash piles are large piles of tree limbs collected during previous forest thinning efforts.

Burning piles reduces the threat of wildfire and improves park aesthetics. For safety purposes, piles will only be burned if at least three inches of snow are on the ground and additional weather conditions are met.

Larimer County authorities don’t want you calling 911 at the sight of the smoke near Carter Lake, west of Loveland.
