Sewage Fountain Threatens Horsetooth Reservoir

It's like a really intense Shark Week program - but stinkier.

Sewage gushed "like a fountain" on a property at the intersection of Larimer County Road 38E and Deer Trail Court on Monday, slowly oozing its way toward Horsetooth Reservoir.

According to the Coloradoan, residents Brian Donnelly and Chris Armstrong discovered gallons of raw sewage leaking out of a manhole in the driveway and onto a dirt road down a hill at about 10:45 a.m on July 4. Poudre Fire Authority, the Larimer County Department of Health and Environment, and Spring Canyon Water and Sanitation District responded, working together to build a berm to keep the sewage from reaching the reservoir.

Crews were able to stop the leak by afternoon and determined rocks were in the line, county health spokesoman Katie O'Donnell told the Coloradoan.

Crowds celebrating Independence Day on and by the water were unharmed by the gunk, as it never reached the reservoir.
