I share everything with you. I probably share more than you would like but I am an open book. I feel if something happens to me that maybe someone else has gone through the same thing.

I have had about every ailment you could think of. I have had mystery infections that needed to be surgically removed. I have had a heart attack, MRSA, cellulitis and many other diabetic complications. The latest battle I have had is with eye herpes. It is the same thing as the cold sore virus but it was on my eyeball. The virus left me but left behind a scar across the front of my cornea. I have had fractured vision for a good part of the year. The scar was right across my pupil so it was like looking through broken glass all the time. It was enough to start to drive me crazy. Last week I finally was able to start to get it taken care of. Here is picture of my eye with the cornea cut and waiting to be removed.

I had my cornea removed, which will grow back and should be like new. The surgery itself was no big deal but the healing has been unpleasant. I had a huge lens, which felt like a checker, put in my eye for a week to protect my eye from infection while it was open. That thing drove me crazy. It was like having a rock in your boot for a week. This is the actual removal of my cornea here.

I went in this week for a progress report. I am about 2/3rds of the way healed. The cornea is growing back but still has a hole the middle where it hasn't quite grown back yet. I now have a hard little lens that acts as a protective cap over the pupil until it all grows back. I still cannot really see much out of the right eye but in time I hope to regain my vision. If I see you out around town beware if you approach me from the right side, I still may not see you coming. It is going well but we still have a way to go.

Thank you to my family, friends and coworkers for their patience while I once again heal. I'll be seeing you soon.
