Sara Evans‘ version of ‘My Heart Can’t Tell You No’ may be a cover, but she has certainly made the song all her own, as evidenced further with her performance of the ‘Stronger’ single at the 2012 ACM Awards. Evans sailed through her live rendition of ‘My Heart Can’t Tell You No’ — a copy of Simon Climie and Dennis Morgan’s 1988 original version –  and she had the crowd screaming by the close of her strong vocal performance.

Latin crooner Marc Anthony introduced Ms. Evans, whom he called his “new old friend” after praising the country songstress’ immense vocal abilities. The dimly lit stage and furniture covered with sheets created a lonely atmosphere for the performance, which was perfect since ‘My Heart Can’t Tell You No’ is quite the heartbreaking tearjerker that any scorned and broken lover can relate to.

Dressed in leather pants, an off-the-shoulder red top and tons of jewelry, Evans looked more like a rock star than a country star at the 2012 ACM Awards. She seamlessly delivered the song without a hitch, showing restraint where needed and really belting it out during the climax at the end of the song. Evans is nominated for the ACM award in the Female Vocalist of the Year category, and she proved yet again why she’s in the running with this great performance.
