I am a fan of the history of country music and like to celebrate all the great artists who are responsible for providing the fabric of county's tapestry of sounds. There have been so many influential pioneers and today marks the anniversary of the passing of one of the all time greats.

I love the old school vocalists who could really sing and Marty Robbins was one of the best at it. Marty had one of those voices that every singer wished he had. I interviewed Merle Haggard shortly before he passed and he even told me that Marty may have been the best singer he had ever heard. I grew up listening to 'Devil Woman', 'El Paso', 'Big Iron', 'My Woman My Woman My Wife' and so many other classics by Marty.

It was on this date back in 1982 that Marty passed away from a heart attack. His death came just two months after he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Let's remember that beautiful voice today and enjoy a few old school country hits from Mr. Robbins.
