Red Cross Works with Colorado Families Displaced By Monday’s High Winds

Facebook, Red Cross

American Red Cross Volunteers are working with two north east Colorado families that were displaced from their homes due to high winds Monday night. Volunteers are helping an Akron couple off Highway 93 who were displaced from their mobile home when it was flipped upside down due to a reported microburst. The Red Cross volunteers are helping with shelter, food, casework and more to help them get back on their feet.

In Holyoke, volunteers are working with a family of two adults and two kids on South Sherman Street who lost their home to a strong wind incident. In a heartwarming turn of events, a local resident who was helped by the Red Cross after a home fire two years ago is now giving back by helping to interpret for the family. The Red Cross has bilingual volunteers, and partners with community groups to address language differences, but it is really touching to see the impact of Red Cross services come back around. Volunteers are working with the family to assess their needs. In situations such as these, the Red Cross typically provides for immediate needs such as emergency shelter, food, blankets, comfort kits, clothing, help refilling medications, trauma counseling and disaster casework.
