Randy Travis to Stand in as ‘Today’ Show Co-Host on Wednesday

As it turns out, ‘Today’ show host Hoda Kotb is quite the country music fan. Last week, we reported that Lee Brice was scheduled to co-host ‘Today’ Tuesday, March 20 with Kotb during the fourth hour on NBC in the absence of regular co-host Kathie Lee Gifford. Then, we got wind of another set of country co-hosts slated to appear the same week: Josh Turner will be filling Gifford’s role Monday, March 19 while Kellie Pickler will stop in on Friday the 23rd. Now, a fourth co-host has been announced, and — surprise! — it’s country star Randy Travis.
Travis will be testing his hosting chops Wednesday, March 21 alongside the country-loving Kotb during the fourth hour as well. The appearance lines up nicely with Travis’ 25th anniversary in the industry, which he’s commemorating with his ‘Anniversary Celebration‘ record and a 2012 North American tour.
Perhaps the appearance on America’s most watched morning show will also give the ‘Forever and Ever, Amen’ singer a chance to redeem himself after some rather negative PR surrounding his Feb. 6 arrest. The singer says he’s excited about the upcoming opportunity, especially since he’s quite familiar with the popular television show.
“Having appeared and performed on the ‘Today’ show many times, I am honored to co-host,” Travis said in a press release. “I look forward to teaming with Hoda Kotb and the NBC crew during my visit to New York.” Travis also recently dropped a self-titled greatest hits album with 11 of his best hits, all available exclusively at Cracker Barrel Old Country Stores.
