Authorities are asking for the public's help in determining how the Fern Lake Fire started. Evacuations of hikers and campers, closures of campgrounds and trails, and difficulty for firefighters have ensued since the spark of the blaze.

Snow and rain over the weekend helped but did not put out the blaze which, according to the Coloradoan, is at about 670 acres and 5% contained.

Investigators still don't know how the fire started and are now reaching out to the public for help. 9News.com reports that anyone who was near or on Fern Lake Trail or Cub Lake Trail before 2pm on Oct. 9 should contact authorities.

Anyone with information should call 970-586-1399.
