President Obama Called Colorado Governor Hickenlooper as He Toured the High Park Fire Area

President Barack Obama called Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper on Tuesday to check on fire resources and to offer his thoughts to those affected by the High Park Fire that is only about 5% contained. 

“You’ve got a bunch of well-trained people working very hard in difficult circumstances, and that’s as much as you can hope for,” said Hickenlooper, who described witnessing a fire crew from Manitou Spring rush to protect a home from approaching flames during his tour.

Toward the end of a media briefing, Colorado Governor, John Hickenlooper got a phone call from President Barack Obama who asked the governor if Colorado had enough firefighting resources and the president also expressed sadness for the loss of life in the High Park Fire.

“The President was thoroughly briefed on what’s going on here,” said Hickenlooper. “He passed along his condolences and any help he could offer.”
