Poudre Fire Authority will unveil a new ‘Green’ fire engine at 9:00 a.m. today (Thursday, September 11th). The unveiling will be during an official bell dedication to retired PFA Fire Chief John Mulligan at Fire Station 10 at 2067 Vermont Dr. in Fort Collins.

The new Rosenbauer brand engine was specified to include the GREEN Star Idle Reduction Technology. This new system helps by being: environmentally friendly; fitting in with City of Fort Collins green initiatives; providing healthier working conditions for crews; reducing diesel exhaust and service intervals.

Additionally the new engine will save diesel consumption and money every year. By taking the average on-scene idle time, multiplying that by the average of two gallons diesel consumption per hour, then multiplying the cost of diesel and the new engine is projected to SAVE over 1,000 gallons of diesel and $3,500 per year.

The GREEN Star system will automatically shut down the chassis engine on-scene when the fire pump is not engaged. The lithium battery will then support all electronic components including the emergency lights.
