Pvt. 1st Class Christopher Alexander Horns, from Colorado Springs gave his all for this country. This Sunday, a section of Highway 96 will be dedicated in his honor.

Pvt. 1st Class Christopher Alexander Horns was Killed In Action on 22 October 2011 during combat operations in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan when the assault force triggered an improvised explosive device. He was 20 years young!

Horns was a Ranger automatic rifleman assigned to Co. C, 2nd Bn., 75th Ranger Regiment at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. He was on his first deployment to Afghanistan. .

The Colorado State Legislature recently approved a section of Highway 96 just outside of Westcliffe, Colorado as a memorial to PFC Horns. Family and friends would like to welcome all veterans and patriots to the dedication this Sunday, July 5, 2015 starting at 1:00 p.m.

The dedication will be at mile marker 8 on Highway 96 which is about 8 miles East of the town of Westcliffe. (Plan on about 4 hours to get there from Northern Colorado)

Pvt. 1st Class Christopher Alexander Horns was also posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal for Combat Service, the Army Commendation Medal for Peacetime Service, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal and the Combat Infantry Badge, Other awards and decorations include the Parachutist Badge, the U.S. Army Expert Rifle Marksmanship Qualification Badge. Horns was also awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Army Service Ribbon.

If you are looking for a good excuse to get out on your motorcycles this Sunday, I couldn't think of a better one than to head down to Westcliffe to honor Pvt. 1st Class Christopher Alexander Horns.
