Pedestrian Struck by Train Town of Wellington

The Larimer County Sheriff's Office, Larimer County Coroner's Office, and Burlington Northern Santa Fe worked together to investigate the train death in Wellington. The Larimer County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 16 year-old Victoria Archibald of Wellington.

This one hit us hard at K99. Brian and I were devastated to learn this morning that it was Victoria who had passed away. She was one of the "Wellington Kids", who stood out in all kinds of weather every year to raise thousands of dollars for our annual 28 Hours of Hope. Our own Charley Barnes is a very good friend of the family. It's a tough day for all of us. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and the entire Wellington community.

Witnesses to the accident reported that Victoria was walking on the railroad tracks alone and away from the approaching train. She appeared to be distracted by a small electronic device and did not respond to the audible warning signals from the train. At this stage in the investigation, this appears to have been a tragic accident.

Late yesterday afternoon, in the Town of Wellington, a young lady was hit and killed by a train. I was alerted by the Larimer County Sheriff's Office that a female pedestrian was struck by a train at 4:57 pm on Monday near the 3600 block of Grant Avenue. Her name has not been officially released, but I have had several K99 listeners tell me that she was one of the Wellington kids who help us out every year with the 28 Hours of Hope. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and the entire Wellington community.

Last night the train was blocking the 3600 block of Cleveland Avenue.
