A small wildland fire is burning on US Forest Service lands in a remote area several miles east of Estes Park, Colorado, and north of Highway 34. The approximately two acre Granite Gulch fire was reported late this afternoon.
With the recent flooding there is a lot of rebuilding and a lot of road construction to be done. There are a limited number of roads to get into Estes Park, Colorado to begin with, but as of right now, there is only one way. That one way is a road which usually closes for the season in October and is currently only open to emergency personnel. (It closed on October 17th last year.)
If you travel on Highway 14 in the Poudre Canyon, you might be in for some serious traffic delays in the coming months. According to 9News, the Colorado Department of Transportation will be doing over 2-million dollars in work to prevent mudslides on the road in the High Park Fire burn-area.
My buddy Tim Champlin is a firefighter with the Poudre Fire Authority in Fort Collins. He is also a talented musician and is the lead singer for the band "Interstate Cowboy". He also happens to be a great songwriter and recently wrote a new song with songwriter Troy Olsen, and George Strait's favorite writer, Dean Dillon.
