2012 Oscars – See All the Winners Here

The 2012 Oscars managed to include the expected and shocks all at the same time. Odds on favorite, ‘The Artist’, won five awards including Best Picture, Best Actor for Jean Dujardin and Best Director for Michel Hazanivicius. But ‘Hugo’ gave it a run for its money, also bringing home five awards (though none in the major categories).

Meryl Streep, the most-nominated actor in Oscar history, won Best Actress for ‘The Iron Lady’ upsetting Viola Davis, who many had expected to win for her role in ‘The Help’ (Davis’ co-star, Octavia Spencer, did win for Best Supporting Actress). Woody Allen won another Oscar for his ‘Midnight in Paris’ screenplay, his fourth Academy Award and though they didn’t get to perform at the show, The Muppets (namely Kermit and Miss Piggy), were on hand to introduce Cirque du Soliel and see Bret McKenzie win an Oscar for his “Man or a Muppet” song.

As for the show itself, it was standard Billy Crystal fare, which is exactly what the Academy was looking for after Eddie Murphy abruptly dropped out last year. (Though he did inspire confusion on Twitter over who the heck was hosting.) There was his opening montage featuring Justin Bieber, the usual song and dance routine about the nominated movies and the jokes about his old grandparents (you could see the ‘Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close’ joke coming a mile away). Overall, there were few exceptionally memorable moments that will go down in Oscar history – the most buzzed about moment was on the red carpet when Sacha Baron Cohen, in character as Admiral Aladeen (from the upcoming movie, ‘The Dictator’), “accidentally” dumped ashes on Ryan Seacrest.

In-show highlights included the ‘Bridesmaids’ girls playing their Martin Scorsese drinking game on stage and chugging vodka from their cleavage and Ben Stiller and Emma Stone with an inspired bit of banter for their presentation. And then, of course, there was the surprise appearance by Jennifer Lopez’s nipples (which you can see here).
