One Of My Favorite News Anchors Announces He Has Cancer

Some of my earliest memories of my father include Tom Brokaw in the background. It's safe to say that Mr. Brokaw was one of the first I looked up to.

It was just announced about an hour ago that Tom Brokaw was diagnosed last August with Multiple Myeloma, which attacks blood cells in bone marrow but says his prognosis is 'encouraging.'

NBC News released this statement:

In a personal note, NBC News Special Correspondent Tom Brokaw revealed he has been diagnosed with cancer and said he and his physicians are very encouraged with the progress he is making

Brokaw has also released a statement of his own,

With the exceptional support of my family, medical team and friends, I am very optimistic about the future and look forward to continuing my life, my work and adventures still to come. I remain the luckiest guy I know.  I am very grateful for the interest in my condition but I also hope everyone understands I wish to keep this a private matter - Tom Brokaw
