Investigators are working to determine what caused a vehicle to become fully engulfed in flames, resulting in one death, on Wednesday night.

At around 9:40 p.m., deputies responded to a report of a vehicle fire on Highway 85 at mile marker 290 near Nunn, Colorado, the Weld County Sheriff's Office says in a news release. Northbound lanes of Highway 85 were shut down at Weld County Road 100 and southbound lanes at Weld County Road 104 due to the incident.

One occupant was found inside the vehicle; they were declared dead by a doctor at 10:30 p.m.

The WCSO has launched an investigation into the cause of the vehicle fire. We will continue to provide updates as they become available; there is no threat to the safety of the public at this time.
