This is a special day for me. It is the anniversary of moment that I will never forget and hope to never repeat. It was 9 years ago today that I had a heart attack. January 21st 2007 was one of the scariest days in my life and for my family as well. I remember it all like it was yesterday.

It was a snowy day and I had been out shoveling before the Colts were about to play the Patriots in the AFC Championship Game. I came inside and felt a pain in the back of my shoulder. I had been feeling discomfort there for a couple of days but didn't think anything of it. The pain then started to go down my arm and hit my chest. I remember clutching my chest and feeling fear fill my body. I had never felt anything like this before. The pain stopped me in my tracks and I knew this was something serious. I got a terrified look on my face and told my wife we had to go and go now. I know now that calling an ambulance would have been the smart thing to do but we were scared and panicked so I just jumped in the car and had Kyla drive me to emergency room.

We went to the desk and they knew right away I was having a heart attack. They asked me to rate my pain between 1 and 10 and I used an "F" word that was not five or four to describe the pain. It was the worst pain I had ever felt. They wheeled me in and were able to put a stent in my heart to get the blood flowing and make me better. It was amazing relief. The first thing I did when I came to was ask who had won the game and I was thrilled to hear that Peyton and Colts had beaten Brady and the Patriots and were going to the Super Bowl, which the Colts would end us winning. That was Peyton's only Super Bowl win and I am hoping he can get the chance to win number two by winning again this Sunday but he will have to do it without me having a lucky heart attack. I never want to go through that again. I truly felt the love of the K99 family throughout that whole ordeal. I had so many flowers and gifts that filled my room and my heart. The picture above is of me clutching the big stuffed dog my buddy Keith and his family had brought me. I still hang out with that heart attack puppy to this day.

Take care of yourself and never ignore the warning signs your body is giving you. Listen and react and it could save your life. I am so happy to still be here and plan on sticking around for a long long time.
