Nicole Kidman is opening up in public about the shattering emotional aftermath she suffered after losing two babies to miscarriages.

In a new cover story with Tatler, Kidman talks openly about the "massive grief" she experienced when she lost a baby when she was 23, not long after she married Tom Cruise. She had an ectopic pregnancy, in which the embryo starts to develop in the fallopian tube, instead of in the womb.

“There’s a huge, aching yearning. I know the yearning,” Kidman says. “And the loss! The loss of a miscarriage is not talked about enough. That’s massive grief to women.”

Cruise and Kidman went on to adopt two children; Isabella Jane, who was born in 1992, and Connor Anthony, who was born in 1995. Kidman got pregnant again in 2001, just before the couple divorced, but she suffered another miscarriage.

Kidman married Keith Urban in 2006, and the couple welcomed their first child, Sunday Rose, in 2008. She was Kidman's first biological child.

"There's an enormous amount of pain and an enormous amount of joy on the other side of it," Kidman tells Tatler. "The flipside of going through so much yearning and pain to get there is the feeling of 'Ahhhh!' when you have the child."

The couple welcomed a second daughter, Faith Margaret, via surrogacy in December 2010.
