Some days in music history just stand out. Today is one of those days. I cannot imagine what it felt like to be a young adult music fan on this day and the emotions that must have been felt across the nation. Today marks the anniversary of one of the darkest days in the history of rock and roll and all of music.

It was on this day back in 1959 that a plane crash near Clear Lake, Iowa took the lives of Ritchie Valens, The Big Bopper and Buddy Holly while Waylon Jennings, who was in Buddy's band, gave up his seat on this ill-fated flight. So much talent was taken from us way too soon. Today is referred to as "The Day the Music Died." Don McLean recorded the classic "American Pie" to pay tribute so it's only fitting that we give that one a listen today. Take a few minutes to take in this 1972 iconic hit.
