Mountain Pine Beetles Hit Larimer County Hard

The mountain pine beetle has attacked millions of lodge pole pine trees in Colorado and according to the annual Report on the Health of Colorado’s Forests, Larimer County was the hardest hit county in the state.

The Colorado State Forest Service at CSU says 98,000 acres of Colorado forests were infested by the beetles last year and about 85,000 of those acres were in Larimer County.

Scientists believe the mountain pine beetle outbreak is nearly over, but now there’s in an outbreak of spruce beetles.
