Mexican Immigration to the United States Tailing Off After Three Decades [VIDEO]

Mexican immigration to the United States is in decline for the first time in over 30 years.
According a report from the Pew Hispanic Center, the number of illegal Mexican immigrants in the US has dropped to 6.1 million from a peak of almost seven million in 2007. The study also found that legal immigration from Mexico to the United States has flattened. Altogether, the total Mexican born population in the US is at 12 million, down from 12.7 million in 2007.
A weak US economy, heightened border control and increases in deportation are the main reasons for the decline. Other factors, such as a drop Mexico’s birth rate, and dangerous drug violence on the Mexico side of the border have also contributed to the reversal of a decades long trend of increased Mexican immigration to the United States.
