Meet The Veterinarians

Dr. Jennifer Pearson

After graduating from Iowa State University Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital in 1993, Dr. Pearson completed a one year internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of Missouri. Following her internship she was accepted into the residency program at the University of Missouri where she completed her three year residency in Internal Medicine. Dr. Pearson finished her Master’s degree in Veterinary Clinical Sciences and completed her residency in 1997, where she had extensive training in radiology and ultrasound. In that same year, she became board certified with the American college of Veterinary Internal Medicine. She then opened her own referral and emergency practice in Omaha, NE. She remained in Omaha for four years and then moved to Michigan and practiced with Michigan Veterinary Specialists for 1 ½ years. She has been practicing Internal Medicine in the Denver area since 2003. Along with practicing clinical medicine, she was an Internal Medicine Consultant for Antech Diagnostics from 2007 to 2012.

Dr. Pearson is highly trained in all aspects of internal medicine; however, she has a special interest in neurology with extensive training in this area. Her other areas of interest include endocrinology, hematology, nephrology, immunology and respiratory disease. Dr. Pearson also studied under Dr. John Bonagura, one of the nation's premier cardiologists, for echocardiograms and cardiac diseases.

In her free time, Dr. Pearson spends time with her husband Mike at the softball fields watching their daughters Laramie and Tayler play competitive softball. She also tries to enjoy the outdoors as much as possible with the girls and step-son Nick. The family enjoys hiking, running, cycling, skiing, and riding motorcycles. They have two Labrador Retrievers, a Shih Tzu and two cats who share their home.

Dr. Sacha Mace

Dr. Mace’s family roots are here in the Colorado Rockies. She grew up in Breckenridge, Colorado. Dr. Mace travelled across the United States for her education & veterinary

training, giving her experience with regional diseases and American cultures. Dr. Mace received her DVM degree from Mississippi State University. She completed her Small Animal Internship at Michigan Veterinary Specialists, and her Small Animal Internal Medicine Residency at Sacramento Animal Medical Group and Louisiana State University. She is boarded in Small Animal Internal Medicine. Her interests include internal medicine, dermatology, emergency medicine, and education (both clientele and students).

Dr. Mace enjoys educating her clients, and as a result, our client compliance, cure rates and survival times are routinely praised by owners and referring DVMs. Dr. Mace enjoys sharing her profession and experiences with students at various levels within the veterinary profession. She has also served as an Adjunct Professor for a Veterinary Technician Program.

Dr. Mace sympathizes with you and your pet’s condition. She can identify with medication schedules and client compliance issues because she rescues special needs pets. Her most memorable menagerie of pets at one time included: a sociable 16 year old Yorkie Silkie with diabetes, cataracts, hyperadrenocorticism, hemangiopericytoma, and cranial cruciate rupture, adopted after his owner, a client, was diagnosed with terminal cancer; a lovable 11 year old perpetual kitten with residual neurologic and urinary issues, adopted after being hit by a car when he was just 6 weeks old; a 5 yr old jawless wonder of a cat, adopted as a starved kitten with a severely broken jaw but a zest for life that could not be denied; and inseparable 16 year old brothers - a cranky cat with diabetes, asthma, and inflammatory bowel disease, and his very friendly, perpetually purring, diabetic brother.

As these critters pass through and embellish our lives, each one of them has a great story - come on in and she’ll tell you a ‘tail’.

Dr. David Espinosa

Dr. David Espinosa is a 2009 graduate of the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine, and completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Texas A&M University in 2010. Dr. Espinosa finished his initial clinical residency in medical oncology at both Cornell University in Ithaca, New York and at the Western Veterinary

He now joins us at Peak Veterinary Specialists & Emergency to complete the final requirements of his residency, which will lead to ACVIM board certification in the specialty of medical oncology.Cancer Centre in Calgary, Alberta. The later was jointly supported by the Western Veterinary Specialist and Emergency Centre, as well as the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Calgary from 2010 to 2013.

Dr. Espinosa will attend to oncology referrals and assist in the management of ongoing clinical cases in both medical and radiation oncology. He will also be available for telephone consultations and emergency service support. Dr. Espinosa will be pleased to answer any question you may have.

 

 

Dr. Preston Stubbs

Dr. Preston Stubbs is a native of Western New York. He earned his BS in Biology in 1985 from George Mason University and his DVM from the Virginia Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine (Virginia Tech) in 1990. He completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Cornell University in 1991 and received his surgical residency training at the University of Florida from 1991-1994. Since that time he has been on the faculty of two veterinary teaching colleges and worked as a staff surgeon in large specialty hospitals in Florida and here in Colorado.

Dr. Stubbs has published numerous articles in refereed journals, has authored several text

book chapters, and has presented numerous scientific lectures and continuing education seminars both nationally and abroad. He had been regularly featured on the Animal Planet network’s Emergency Vets and E-Vets: Interns programs.

Dr. Stubbs comes to Peak Veterinary Specialists & Emergency with significant experiencein specialty referral practice and is eager to assist you with the management of soft tissue, orthopedic (including TPLO, TTA, and total hip replacement), and neurosurgical cases. Dr. Stubbs is board certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) and his professional interests include arthroscopy, complex joint injury repair, cementless total hip replacement, tibial tuberosity advancement, fracture repair with interlocking nails, portosystemic shunts, and neurosurgery.

He enjoys spending time with his five children and wife Laura, a veterinarian. He also enjoys fly fishing, sports, building custom guitars and playing drums.

Dr. Larry J. Klima

Larry J. Klima is board certified by the American Veterinary Dental College. Since 2007, he has provided a specialty service in small animal veterinary dentistry and oral surgery, and offers in-house training seminars for veterinarians and their technical staff.

Dr. Klima routinely travels to Peak Veterinary Specialists in Windsor, Colorado to offer specialty dental care. Typical procedures scheduled during Dr. Klima’s visits include complicated extractions, root canal therapy, periodontal surgery, oral tumor resection, reconstructive surgery, fracture repair, and consultation by appointment.

 

Dr. Vicki L. Campbell

Dr. Campbell received a B.S. in Biology at the University of Oregon in 1993 and a D.V.M. from Kansas State University in 1997. Following graduation, she completed a small animal internship at the University of Minnesota. After a combined residency in emergency/critical care and anesthesia at the University of Pennsylvania, she became boarded in both

specialties. In 2003, she became a faculty member at Colorado State University in emergency/critical care. Dr. Campbell left academics in 2013 to pursue a career in private specialty practice.

Dr. Campbell’s main areas of interest include perioperative critical care, pain management, sepsis, dialysis, shock, and ventilation. However, she enjoys all aspects of emergency and critical care and utilizes her anesthesia skills to provide high quality anesthesia to critical and non-critical patients.

Outside of veterinary medicine, she has four lively children that keep her busy. She also has two giant breed dogs, a Great Pyrenees and a Newfoundland.

Dr. Kevin McAbee

Dr. Kevin McAbee graduated veterinary school at CSU in 1999.  After one year internships in Los Angeles and Florida, Kevin completed a small animal surgical residency and fellowship at The Animal Medical Center in New York, NY.  Dr. McAbee became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgery in 2006.  Following his training, Kevin returned to Colorado to practice specialty surgery spending time in both Longmont and Denver.  Dr. McAbee was director of the Surgery Department at Alameda East Veterinary Hospital in Denver for seven years but then decided to move to Michigan to be closer to family.   Like so many people that move away from Colorado, Dr. McAbee found his way back to this wonderful state and is excited to be the full time surgeon at Peak Veterinary Specialists and Emergency.  Dr. McAbee specializes in all types of small animal surgery and has extensive training in minimally invasive techniques such as arthroscopy, laparoscopy, and thoracoscopy.  Kevin is an expert in Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) and other specialized orthopedic procedures and has years of experience in surgical oncology and neurologic surgery as well.  Kevin considers himself extremely fortunate to be able to help animals on a daily basis.

Away from the hospital Dr. McAbee spends most of his time with his family and their pets.  Dr. McAbee is an avid cyclist and, when his responsibilities as a father and husband allow, he can be found riding the roads of this beautiful state.

Dr. Lisa Nowicki

Dr. Lisa Nowicki is originally from the Berkshires in western Massachusetts.  She received a B.S. in Animal Science from the University of Connecticut in 2003 and a D.V.M from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2007.  Her interest in emergency medicine grew early as she was a very enthusiastic board member of the Student Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society throughout veterinary school.  After graduation, Dr. Nowicki completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Veterinary Specialists and Emergency Services in Rochester, New York.

After completion of her internship, Dr. Nowicki moved to Colorado basically on a whim and

a sense of adventure.  It has proved to be a fulfilling move providing a lot of fun and new experiences in her life and career.  Dr. Nowicki had spent the last 5 1/2 years at Animal Emergency and Specialty Service in Parker.  She has recently joined the Peak Veterinary Specialists and Emergency team as she was ready for another new experience and growth in her career.

Dr. Nowicki’s interests include trauma, endocrine emergencies, and surgical emergencies but she enjoys the diverse and intense case load that emergency medicine provides.

Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Nowicki enjoys running and participating in races, snowboarding, hiking, camping, biking, arts and crafts and life in general with her fiancé.   They play host to a menagerie of animals including their two dogs, Marietta, a street dog from Mexico, who is the most amazing dog ever and Oskar Blue, who has an amazing zest for life.  They also have five cats, Melvin, Herman, Calvin, George and Gilda.

Dr. Servi

Dr. Servi was born and raised in Chicago where she developed her interest in veterinary medicine.  Prior to going to veterinary school she worked as a Certified Veterinary Technician for 6 years at a large multi-specialty hospital.  It was there that she developed a strong interest in veterinary physical rehabilitation as well as emergency and critical care.  She completed the Healing Oasis Veterinary Massage and Rehabilitation course as well as the University of Tennessee rehabilitation curriculum.

Still seeking new knowledge and adventure, Dr. Servi decided to move to Madison to finish her Bachelors in Biology while working at the University of Wisconsin Veterinary Teaching Hospital within the Anesthesia and ICU departments and multiple research labs.  She graduated with her DVM from UW-Madison in 2008 and then worked in small animal private practice for several years before deciding to focus on emergency and critical care.  She completed an Emergency and Critical Care Internship in Wisconsin prior to moving to Colorado in 2013.

Special areas of interest continue to be critical care, trauma, pain management and physical rehabilitation.  Becoming certified in acupuncture is the next goal. Her free time is spent chasing around twin toddlers, 3 dogs and 1 cat.  She enjoys camping, hot yoga and vegetarian cooking.
