The Fort Collins Police Department has a new drug sniffing dog. K9 Eleiko is a 12-month-old Dutch Shepherd. He is a dual-purpose Patrol and Narcotics Detection canine, which means he is trained to locate and apprehend criminal suspects and trained to locate the odor of illegal drugs.

K9 Eleiko was imported from Holland prior to being selected to join the Fort Collins Police force. He and his handler completed 10 weeks of intense training, including eight weeks at DNA K9, LLC in North Carolina.

Fort Collins Police Services has four other dual-purpose canines and one single-purpose explosives detection canine. These guys keep busy. In 2018, Fort Collins Police used their canines over six hundred times.
