Martin Luther King Jr. Day March in Fort Collins

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is coming up on Monday, January 18th. Your kids will ask why they don’t have school and I hope you know the answer. I will explain it to my kids like this, “Martin Luther King, Jr. helped our country become more fair, by getting lots and lots of people to listen and eventually change laws. So no matter what people looked like, or what color their skin was, or what they believed, they could be together enjoying all the same great possibilities this country has to offer.”

If you want to do something more than just explain it to them. Take them to the official Martin Luther King Jr. Day March in Fort Collins. Just show up to Old Town Square at 11am to march to CSU, or join the celebration at 11:45 at the Lory Student Center Main Ballroom. The theme of this year’s celebration is “Free But Shackled: The Cost Of Oppression.”

Loveland’s MLK Celebration
Monday, January 18th
Mountain View High School auditorium – doors open at 6 p.m. (to view exhibit) program  at 6:30. Students from every grade level in the Thompson School District are creating art for the exhibit and performance numbers based on our theme, “Equal Rights, Not Wrongs.”  Loveland’s Mayor (Cecil Gutierrez) and City Manager (Bill Cahill) have been invited to participate. Diann Rice of the Colorado Civil Rights Commission will speak and  Superintendent Stan Scheer will be master of ceremony.
