Age 47, of Dawsonville, Ga.; assigned to 14th Engineer Battalion, 555th Engineer Brigade, Joint Base Lewis-McChordl, Wash.; died May 31 in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of wounds caused by an improvised explosive device.

Age 23, of Covington, Ind.; assigned to 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; died May 30 in Helmand province, Afghanistan, while supporting combat operations.

Army Capt. John R. Brainard - Died May 28, 2012 Serving During Operation Enduring Freedom. Age 26, of Dover-Foxcroft, Maine; assigned to 12th Combat Aviation Brigade, Ansbach-Katterbach, Germany; died May 28 in Kabul, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when his AH-64 Apache helicopter crashed. Also killed was Army Chief Warrant Officer Five John C. Pratt.
