Northern Colorado School Districts Canceling Classes April 27

A number of Northern Colorado school districts are canceling class on Friday, April 27 due to teacher walkouts. The teachers are rallying for better education funding and protections for their retirement plan. A planned protest will have many teachers at the State Capitol instead of in school. Colorado schools are currently underfunded by $822 million and $2,700 below the national average in per pupil funding.

Here's a list of the Northern Colorado school districts that have canceled class:

Poudre School District (Fort Collins)
Thompson School District (Loveland/Berthoud)
St. Vrain Valley School District (Broomfield, Dacono, Erie, Firestone, Frederick, Hygiene, Longmont, Lyons, Mead, Niwot)
Weld County School District RE-1 (Gilcrest, LaSalle, Platteville)
Weld County RE-5J School District (Johnstown, Milliken)
Weld County RE-8 School District (Fort Lupton)

Greeley/Evans District 6 was already closed for students on Friday.

Many districts, like Weld RE-4 (Windsor), are organizing walk-ins. Teachers and students will have signs showing their support of the cause outside the schools, while wearing red. Once the bell rings, the teachers will walk inside with their students.
