A 24-year-old man who shot a Loveland police officer during a traffic stop has been sentenced to 40 years in prison.The Fort Collins Coloradoan reports Cody Powell, of Loveland, was sentenced Wednesday after previously pleading guilty to attempted first-degree murder and an amended count of a crime of violence.

Prosecutors say Powell shot officer Garret Osilka during a traffic stop in March. The officer survived and is recovering. Osilka survived because his bullet-proof vest took most of the damage. He returned fire as Powell fled.
