Lost Teens Hiking in Roosevelt National Forest Rescued

Colorado search and rescue found three teenage boys who got lost over the weekend while hiking in Roosevelt National Forest. According to the Coloradoan, around 5:00 p.m. Saturday (July 30, 2016), the 15 and 16-year-old boys were able to send a text that they had become lost.  Rescue crews from the Larimer County Sheriff's Office and Larimer County Search and Rescue were able to locate two of the boys with the help of search dogs just after 8:00 p.m. in the area of the B-17 crash site.

The third boy had become separated from the others, and the search for him continued until 11:00 p.m., when it was decided to postpone the search until the next morning. Rescue crews enlisted the help of search helicopters provided by AirLink and the U.S. Air Force Civil Air Patrol. Rescuers were eventually able to find the boy by determining his location using GPS coordinates after he climbed to a higher elevation regaining cell phone service. The third boy was rescued and back with his family by 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening.
