A friend of mine, Zak Clayton, who is a member of the VFW Warriors, was run off the road last month and left for dead. Now it's our turn to pay it forward and offer help.

It was August 16 when Zak was headed home from Carter Lake when a vehicle came into his lane around a corner and forced him off the road. He lost control while avoiding a head-on collision, flipping his bike and hit a fence post, face first. The driver of the car never stopped and left him for dead. 7 hours later, he finally crawled up the road where he was finally found.

As a father of two, the guy would literally give the shirt off his back to anyone in need and now he needs help as he is dealing with a very long healing process and a huge financial burden to his family as they have no medical insurance. Zak is a District #3 VFW Warrior and has helped many Veterans in his community.

An event has been established for September 28 to help his situation. The fundraiser will be a 7 card poker run (7 stops instead of the traditional 5) and will begin at the VFW Post - 6624 (3501 State St.) in Evans. Registration starts at 8:00 a.m. and breakfast will start at 830 a.m.; cost for the poker run is $15, $5 for your passenger, and all vehicles are welcome and encouraged to attend. (If weather is bad...DRIVE, just be there.)
