School may be out for the summer, but that doesn't mean that your child has to completely swear off books for the next two and a half months. Local libraries offer fun summer reading programs that your kids will love being a part of!

From participating in themed-activities and fun group games, to reading interesting, entertaining and educational books, summer reading programs are a great way for children and teens to stay busy over the break, while also earning cool prizes along the way.

According to research, many students will go through the phenomenon that is known as the “summer slide,” where they wind up losing approximately 1-3 months of learning over the summer. Kids that continue to read during the summer break are more prepared to jump back into the swing of things once fall comes back around.

The High Plains Library District, Longmont Public Library, Loveland Public Library, Poudre River Public Library District and the Clearview Library District all offer their own variety of summer reading programs. Check them all out and see which program is the best fit for  your child– or even you!
