Who has the power?

Single parents have the power. As a new dad(not a single dad), I'm coming to appreciate this better than ever before. We just had our son ten weeks ago. In the midst of some of the difficulty that brings, I have stopped and thought to myself "How do single moms do this?"

Parenting is sometimes kicking my ass, and there are two of us! I don't feel too bad about the fact that parenting is challenging me. However, there are many times when I know I need to stop and remind myself that there are others that have it much tougher than me. Our son doesn't have special needs, health issues, and there are two of us.

This morning, I woke up and asked my wife how the last few hours went. Huck didn't sleep for more than an hour at a time. That's challenging.

Still, she has me to take over later on today. Perspective is a beautiful thing.

How do single moms they take care of the baby, and also work, or otherwise figure out how to provide an income?

That's why I'm coming to realize that single moms are among the most likely to be able to tap into the pools of power and ability that are available for all humans, but most of us aren't forced to use them. You know how they say we only use 10% of our brain's power. I believe that single moms might be in a class of people who have to find the way to access more power than most.

Why? Because they have to. That's the reality of parenting, whether it's single parenting or otherwise—parents are forced to be able to do more than they thought they could do. For single parents, the amount of what they accomplish must be that much more demanding and intense.

I'm not writing from experience. I'm writing from a stance of awe. I take inspiration from you, single parents. When I see you getting it done the way that you do, it really helps me.

That's why I wanted to share this song, and video. Since I have become a parent, I have sometimes wondered, "What if I had to do this alone?" I know that if I did, I'd have to tap a reserve of power that I hope I have. I'm not sure how I'd find it, but to all the single parents out there, I just wanted to say that you may not know it, but we are highly impressed by you.

This video and singer reminded me of all this.
