It's hard to believe that anyone could be so heart-less, but there have been reports that people are already trying to scam victims of the High Park Fire out of their money.  The Larimer County Sheriff's Office has received reports of individuals seeking to charge High Park Fire victims fees of up to $700 to verify whether or not their structure(s) were damaged by the fire.

According to a press release from Larimer County Sheriff's Department:

The Sheriff's Office wants to remind citizens that county officials are in the process of making these property assessments and that the information is available free of charge. Furthermore, most owners of the properties known to be damaged have already been notified.

The official source for structure verification in the High Park Fire zone is Larimer County. Property owners are encouraged to call the Structure Verification Line at (970) 619-4086 to verify the condition of their properties. This phone line is staffed Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
