Larimer County Sheriff Justin Smith Appointed to NSA Board of Directors
Larimer County Sheriff Justin Smith has been appointed to the National Sheriffs' Association Board of Directors, helping to provide a voice on issues concerning law enforcement, corrections, and court security before Congress.
"It's an honor to be elected by your community to serve as their Sheriff. It's even more humbling to be selected by your peers to represent the Office of Sheriff at a national level," Smith said in a press release from LCSO. "For many years, the concerns of the western states were not adequately represented at the national level. I decided some time ago the way to address that was to become involved and provide a voice on those issues."
The NSA board, which represents all 3,080 sheriffs in the U.S., is made up of 20 sheriffs from across the country; Sheriff Smith had previously been appointed as a member of both the education and homeland security subcommittees of the NSA, and is now one of only 4 sheriffs from west of the Mississippi on the board.
Chartered in 1940, the NSA works to protect and serve the Office of Sheriff and represent not only sheriffs, but also deputies and other law enforcement, public safety professionals, and concerned citizens nationwide. The organization is routinely called upon to provide expert testimony on law enforcement, corrections, and court security issues before Congress.
To date, NSA membership has exceeded 20,000.
