Larimer County Fair and Rodeo Queen Danielle Mayer has given up her tiara for stainless steel dental tools. Mayer graduated from Colorado State University in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences and now plans on attending dental school.

Danielle dedicated two years to the Larimer County Fair and Rodeo Royalty program, first as lady in waiting, then as queen. She finished her applications to dental school this summer.

During her senior year in biomedical sciences, Danielle worked as a researcher for the Fort Collins branch of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The Wellington native also recently worked as an assistant in the office of an oral maxillofacial surgeon – experience that should give her a leg up in dental school.

Danielle is my friend on Facebook. I asked her why she wants to be a dentist when she grows up:

Well I have always wanted to pursue a career in the health field but through my life experiences I realized that I use my teeth for three main things... Smiling, chewing and talking. I decided I would never want anybody to go without happiness, being healthy or being able to communicate with family and friends! Plus teeth are just cool!
