There is no denying that Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney keep pretty fit. And given that both of the country music icons are in their mid-40s, opening act Jake Owen is in awe of the shape his Brothers of the Sun touring partners are in.

“Kenny pretty much sticks to [eating] chicken, salmon and broccoli [on the tour],” Owen reveals to Taste of Country. “I have been trying to do the same. I mix an occasional brew in here and there, but he’s really good with his diet. And Tim looks amazing. His body looks like he’s 22 years old.”

Owen admits, “I’m trying to keep up with those guys.”

One way the ‘Barefoot Blue Jean Night’ hitmaker is already on par with Chesney and McGraw is with his performance. The tour has only been live for a month and a half, but Owen has already been captivating audiences each night with a high-octane show that has everybody sitting up and taking notice — a hard feat for an opening act.

“The biggest thing that has happened for me over the past year and a half since ‘Barefoot Blue Jean Night’ has been this identity now that I have with my fans,” Owen explains. “Just in the car a minute ago, I was listening to the local [radio station], and they were like be sure to call in for your tickets … we’ve got Kenny, Tim and Jake at LP Field. I was like, ‘Wow! They didn’t include my last name in that?’ It was just kind of odd, especially in the company of those two guys. It’s been awesome and it feels awesome just to be out there on that tour. Honest to God, every single time I play, I’m really blown away that they are even having me out there.”

This weekend, the Brothers of the Sun Tour rolls on with shows in Chicago and Minneapolis. Click here for a full list of dates.
