Today is Father in Law Day. One of the scariest things in the world is meeting the parents of the one you love. I remember meeting my father in law for the first time. I was not what he had in mind for his baby girl to end up with and who could blame him. Our children are our most precious gift in the world and we are concerned about who they end up with. It took me many years, but I finally got my father in law Nick to accept me and realize I was an okay dude.

I have so much respect for this man. He served in Korea, worked the railroad and busted his butt his entire life to provide for his family and make sure they had all the things he didn't have growing up. We lost Nick this last year and he is greatly missed but loved and respected more than ever. Nick was never an 'I love you' kind of guy. That never came easy for him. I was raised in the opposite environment, where 'I love you' was uttered every day. The last time I saw Nick before he passed, we had gone to lunch. We were dropping him off at his apartment and before he went in, he turned to me and gave me a hug and said 'I love you Brian'. That was the first time he ever said that and it was the last words he ever spoke to me. I cannot imagine a greater gift than that. It was like he knew he was going and wanted me to know. Thank you Nick for all you have done for me and the gift of your daughter. You are missed. If your father in law is still on this earth, call him today.
