What the heck is Yik Yak (other than fun to say)? It's an app that sends out a 'yak' from your phone, which is basically just like a tweet or a status update. The twist is, it's completely anonymous. The future of revealing your giggle-worthy candid thoughts  – without revealing that they are, in fact, yours – is here.

Yik Yak is intended to help its users see what is going on around them, by privately sharing messages through a very public feed. For students, this means you can see which yaks are trending at your school, so it has the capability to not only spread messages campus-wide, but the potential to connect a student body. This is what sets it apart from student-based confession pages and, of course, the good old Ram Talk.

According to its Facebook page, the Yik Yak app is active at over 200 higher ed institutions. Check out some deep, insightful yaks from respected universities trending now at yikyakapp.com:

Penn State–

'I'll start eating better once they put healthy foods in microwaveable cups that cost me 10 cents.'

and University of Connecticut –

'I thought Ariana Grande was a font in Microsoft Word.'

After a recent cryptic Facebook post  read: 'Get ready, CSU. The Yak is coming... #RideTheYak,' we've been left wondering, is that Colorado State University?

We'll have to wait and see if Yik Yak hits CSU soon, but for now, we're going to occupy our time with reading all of the other yaks that are up on the site. With all of the late night partying studying taken into account, who would have thought college kids could be so uh... witty?
