Johnny Cash was known for so many things. He was one of the greatest singers, songwriters and entertainers that we have ever seen. He was one of the most influential artists and most respected as well. He was known for standing up for what he believed in and he gave a voice to many who did not have one before like the prisoners of Folsom Prison.

It was on this date in 1968 that Johnny Cash did what no one had ever thought of doing before. He performed at a prison in front of an audience of nothing but inmates and recorded it for a live album. This was unheard of and not encouraged by his label or anyone but Johnny knew what he wanted to do and it was brilliant. Check out a video telling a little background of the story of this musical event.
