Less than a month ago the Cold Springs Fire near Nederland destroyed 8 homes. It was caused by campers who did not properly extinguish their campfire.

Wednesday afternoon a small fire was discovered in Rocky Mountain National Park. The Estes Valley Fire Protection District quickly extinguished it near the Lumpy Ridge Trailhead .

Investigators found the fire burning where someone was obviously camping, even though camping is prohibited in that area.  Witnesses reported seeing two white males in their late teens or early twenties carrying camping equipment and supplies to that area just prior to seeing smoke.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about this incident or the two aforementioned males to contact Larimer County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Justin Atwood at 970-498-5143.  You may also contact Crime Stoppers at 970-221-6868 where you may remain anonymous and possibly be eligible for a cash reward.
