I've had the worst luck with cars over the past 6 months.

Earlier this year, the engine in my Dodge Neon burned out and quit on me while I was driving from Fort Collins to Greeley. That was a nightmare. Three months after having the engine replaced, it blew out on me again on my way home from New Mexico. For the past 2 months, my car has been stranded in the Middle-Of-Nowhere, New Mexico, waiting to be worked on. The timing belt shredded (the car has less than 60,000 miles on it, so Lord knows what I did to the poor car), and the new engine died on me.

So for the last 2 months, I've been driving a 15-year-old minivan that had a "I Love My Granddogs" bumper magnet on it (until I removed it). Well, yesterday the car began swerving uncontrollably, and I was forced to pull over. Below is a photo of what happened to this poor minivan.

Now I'm driving my grandpa's old car from the 90's, and while it's a nice car, its age scares me. I'm ready to buy a new (or gently used) vehicle of my own. I'm tired of borrowing unreliable cars (sorry, mom and dad - thanks for saving my life, though).

Aside from any kind of truck - what make/model would you recommend? A couple cars I'm thinking of are the new Fiat 500X or Jeep Renegade, among some others. At the end of the day, though, I just want a reliable car that gets me from point A to point B without breaking down.
