How Would you Feel if your Child’s Teacher Had a Gun at School?

A tiny school district in Texas will pass a law that will allow teachers and school staff to carry weapons on school property later this month.

According to a story on FOXnews.com the tiny school district is home to about 110 students. The Harold Independent School District is in a rural location 30 miles from the Sheriff's office, leaving the school volatile to a potential shooting attack.

The law will allow employees of the school to carry firearms as long as they meet the requirements of the law:
In order for teachers and staff to carry a pistol, they must have a Texas license to carry a concealed handgun; must be authorized to carry by the district; must receive training in crisis management and hostile situations and must use ammunition that is designed to minimize the risk of ricochet in school halls.

Although it may be unheard of, the idea of carrying firearms to school is not a new concept:

In Utah, the law allows anyone with a permit to carry a gun in public schools and state institutions of higher education.

So my question is how do you feel about this? Would you feel safer sending your child to school if you knew the teacher and staff at school were packing a firearm? Personally, I am not sure how I feel about this. I am not against guns and you won't see me waving a flag for greater gun control. But, I feel it may make thing's worse, people are emotional and act mostly out of emotion. Even the most tempered person can have a break down or a bad day and now they will be equipped with a tool they may not know how to control in the heat of the moment. No amount of training or laws will protect our children from a gun toting school staffer that could come to the end of their rope and snap and I haven't even talked about the potential for a student to get a hold of a law allowed gun on school property.
