The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is opening the Virginia Dale Rest Area for the summer today (Monday, May 20th). Finally we have place to stop and go potty between Fort Collins and Laramie. At my age, sometimes it's hard to hold it and there not many lavatorial options on Highway 287.

The rest area is located on US 287 at mile marker 383.5, approximately two miles south of the Colorado/Wyoming border.  It has been closed since September of last year and generally opens by Memorial Day. Thanks to favorable weather conditions and the hard work of CDOT crews to prepare the area for use, you can use it week early.

The Virginia Dale rest area is in a beautiful spot and features restrooms and a picnic area. It is expected to remain open until September of this year. Each year, CDOT crews have to close the rest area to prevent the water pipes from freezing.
