You could smell the smoke yesterday in Fort Collins.  You could see the smoke all along the front range.  The Hewlett Fire  is now estimated at 982 acres.  It has been determined The fire is human caused; However, details are still under investigation.

The Hewlett fire is located northwest of Fort Collins, 10 miles west of the junction of Hwy 14 and Hwy 287 near the Hewlett Gulch Trail in the Poudre Canyon.

Yesterday a  Single Engine Air Tanker and the Type 1 and 3 helicopters worked on the fire throughout the day. As of 4 p.m. the SEAT had made 6 drops , the Type 1 helicopter has made 20 drops, and the Type 3 helicopter has made 20 drops .

The Hewlett Gulch Trail, Greyrock Trail, and the area surrounding the trails are closed. For recorded information: 970-498-1030.
