Hewlett Fire Now 11 Percent Contained, Some Evacuations Still in Place

The Hewlett Fire is now 11 percent contained and about 7,673 acres, according to the Forest Service. Evacuations remain in place for 15 homes along Highway 14 from Greyrock Trailhead to North Poudre diversion dam.

Over 500 firefighters are working the fire along with air-fighting efforts. Today’s warm weather and predicted thunderstorms could potentially cause the fire to grow.

An Evacuation Center is established at Cache La Poudre Middle School, 3515 West County Road 54G in La Porte. Small animals may be taken to the Larimer Humane Society off of Trilby and College in Fort Collins. Firefighters are focusing on structure protection, securing fire line in areas near the communities, and public and firefighter safety.
