Greeley Tide Detergent Thief Goes to Prison

A gallon of Tide sells for about $16. Once stolen, it’s sold to a middleman for about $8, who THEN sells it back to a retailer at nearly full price. I think I got that right. The ringleader of a Tide laundry detergent theft gang is back in prison after pleading guilty. Angel Mesa of Greeley, was sentenced to 30 months in the Colorado Department of Corrections for his part in a series of detergent thefts in Fort Collins, Greeley, Loveland and Longmont. Mesa was on parole when he was arrested by Loveland police in connection with the Tide thefts. Mesa pleaded guilty to the thefts Jan. 3rd. According to police, Mesa led a gang of people who would walk into area grocery stores and big-box retailers and walk out with shopping carts loaded with Tide detergent.
“They were basically walking in, loading up the cart and walking out,” said Detective Henry Stucky of the Loveland Police Department. “They’re brazen.”
