My wife, Jenny, is coordinating a conference at CSU. We were looking for a short hike close to Fort Collins to entertain a few of the conference speakers. We took our visitors from Australia to Reservoir Ridge Natural Area for a two-hour jaunt up the side of the hill.

It's a great way to get to the north end of Horsetooth Reservoir in  fairly short amount of time and the hike isn't too difficult. (That is coming from a guy who isn't in great shape.)

The trail is a little rocky, so wear sturdy shoes. We saw a few mountain-bikers, but it seemed to be a very challenging trail for bicycles. Horses are allowed and there is some parking for horse trailers.

Hours

Reservoir Ridge is open daily from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. The parking lots off Michaud Lane and Overland Trail Road are open to vehicle traffic from dawn to dusk (in winter, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.).

Directions

Parking lots on Centennial Drive/ CR 23, the west end of Michaud Lane and off Overland Trail Road (at approximately 1425 Overland Trail Rd).
