If you were hoping that Sports Authority would be able to fight off liquidation of its locations, your hope took a big blow in the courts on Monday.

According to the Denver Business Journal, liquidators came out on top in the bankruptcy auction of the struggling sports retailer. They beat out other sports retailers including Dick's Sporting Goods.

The liquidation team is comprised of three groups: Tiger Capital Group, Hilco Global, and Gordon Brothers.

Two of those groups have already been involved in the liquidation of other Sports Authority properties, including the Sports Castle in Denver.

There are more auctions planned by Sports Authority, as they next try to sell off their brand and any of their intellectual property.

Debts for the retailer topped $1 billion.

There is still no word on the future of Sports Authority properties located in Fort Collins and Greeley. However, with this ruling this week, looks like you'll be able to get some deals on sporting goods merchandise in the near future.
