The response from fans was overwhelming as the show sold out, which meant the world to both Brian & Todd. What a night to remember at the Sundance Steakhouse and Saloon!

Friday, May 10, 2013 Volare and I are in our first show .  It’s The Colorado Arabian Club
Spring Horse Show at the National Western Event Center in Denver.

2-year-old Volare went to our trainer Wally Post in Brighton at the beginning of this year and I visited weekly to try to learn what she knew.  So after 4 months of lessons,  I think
I’ve got it. The most important step of human/horse communication is the ‘WHOA’.

This filly and I fell in love at first sight.  I got to see her be born. She learned FROM ME to come for ‘lovings’ and sometimes that was at a full gallop…right into me…ouch…our first accident was in November of 2011…About a year later we had another…

You see we HAD to get help. Thank you Wally Post for teaching us WHOA!

Class #33 ‘$$(8) Arabian Mare Breeding – 2 Years Old’ and
Class #35 ‘Arabian Filly & Mare Breeding AOTH’…I can’t tell you the difference in
the two classes, we’re just going to do our best to be beautiful in the arena.

I have sweet recollections of prom. Oh we sure had the glitz and glamor of the crepe paper decorated gym…prom was a big deal.  My date for all 4 proms in high school was my steady, Pete.  This picture gallery is of photos I’ve saved

Stuffed Cabbage

Prep Time: 25 minutes

Cook Time: 1 hour

Total Time: 1 hour, 25 minutes

Yield: 4 to 5 servings

Serving Size: 2 cabbage rolls

• 2 Tablespoons olive oil
• 1 chopped medium yellow onion
• 1 medium head (about 2 pounds) green cabbage
• 1 pound ground beef,   I USED DEER MEAT
• 1/2 cup cooked white
• 1/4 cup raisins, chopped
• 3/4 teaspoon salt
• 1 can (16 ounces) tomato sauce
• 1/2 cup beef broth
• 1/2 teaspoon paprika

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a 13- by 9-inch pan with cooking spray or oil.

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Using a small, sharp knife, cut in a circle all around the stem of the cabbage and remove the core. Place the cabbage in the boiling water. After about 2 minutes an outside leaf will come loose–pull it off and out of the water using tongs. After another minute the next leaf will come loose. Remove and repeat until you have 8 to 10 leaves. Pat the leaves dry with paper towels. Cut out the thick part of the rib from the bottom of each leaf, but don’t cut more than a third of the way into the leaf.

In a medium skillet, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Add the onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Set aside to cool.

In a mixing bowl combine cooled onion, beef, chopped raisin, salt. When this is thoroughly mixed, gently mix in the rice.

With the stem side of the cabbage leaf facing you, place a scant 1/3 cup of the beef mixture in the center of each cabbage leaf. Fold the bottom edge over the mixture and then fold the sides over and roll into a tidy packet. Place the cabbage rolls, seam side down, in the prepared baking dish.

In a bowl, mix together the tomato sauce, broth, and paprika. Pour evenly over the cabbage rolls. Cover with foil and bake for 1 hour

It’s an annual thing like filing your taxes, planting a garden, eating turkey and making a resolution, yet it just may be one of the most dreaded annual events in a woman’s life.

I have been a part of the annual boob squishing society for the last 5 years. (yes, I am a spring chicken, but they say I have a lot of “stuff” inside there so they have to watch it closely) I should be used to undressing in front of a stranger and having them play stretch Armstrong with each of the girls by now, but for some reason, this is just not one of those events that is ever fun.

I’d really rather file taxes, okay maybe not, but definitely plant a garden over baring it all and having someone manipulate my boob to the point of me not knowing if it will ever regain it’s original shape.

I can guarantee you that if a man had to but his, um… well, ahh, unit(?) up in between these plates that come together and squish your stuff to find out if they had something wrong with their, you know, they wouldn’t do it and there would even be less men per each woman in this world. Seriously, we do not get the proper pats on the back for keeping ourselves healthy, and I haven’t even mentioned the ice cold ‘jaws of stainless steel” that we encounter with our physicals each year, I know for certain that I would rather bend over and cough than encounter the ‘jaws of stainless steel’ (which by the way are a lot larger than a finger-I’m just saying)

I am not sure who invented this monstrosity, but clearly it was not a woman. A woman would have figured out how to make it out of marshmallows and have a trunk of chocolate to gnaw on while we “lean forward and hang on” Okay, just an FYI, I just looked it up and the inventors of the first boob squisher were Patrick and Jack in 1986 (their invention was closer to what most offices use today), but long before that Albert invented a way to take a peek inside (he developed the first machine in 1966). I told you it had to be men! I am glad for the technology, don’t get me wrong, but there has got to be a better way.

• Breast cancer is rare in men, but still the same, 2,150 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer and approximately 410 will die each year

WHAT IS BREAST CANCER:

Breast cancer is a disease in which malignant (cancer) cells form in the tissues of the breast. The damaged cells can invade surrounding tissue, but with early detection and treatment, most people continue a normal life.

Have fun with the gallery of pictures, I take you through a picture tour from the waiting room to the end… let me tell you, no lotion or deodorant yesterday in 68 degree weather wasn’t pretty, I was very excited to be able to clean up, lotion up and spray myself with deodorant.

Like most men I love beer, power tools and good friends.  When you put them all together magic can happen that only guys understand and Saturday night was the most magical evening in years. As some of you know, I am getting ready to ride back out to Topeka Kansas on my 7th trip to go pay my respects to the Wetburro Baptist Cult for my 50th birthday.  I spent my birthday there last year, and I see no change in those plans for years to come.

One of the biggest issues I’ve had for years is the fact that I have no flag holders for my motorcycle and now that I have a new FLHX they are hard to find and expensive.  So one of my best friends, Jay “Rebel” Tamlin, and I decided to see what we could fabricate specifically for my needs and wants and I think we have come up with the most incredible idea ever. We created mounting brackets that attach to hardware already in place for the rear fender. The support brackets come down hidden behind the fender trim and can hardly be seen.  At the bast of each bracket, we drilled bolt holes that the actual flag holder assembly bolts on to with 2 bolts on each side.  In the flag holders themselves, we drilled holes all the way through the receivers and also my flag pole stock;  In my case, a nice stained wooden handrail to which a locking pin is inserted.

Now, I can wrap my flags tight and tie them off for highway speeds (I hope. Full test ride tomorrow) and then when in Topeka chasing Wetburro scum, they can easily be removed for flag patrols and I can now literally be on my back and on the chase in seconds vs. having to disassemble my flag set up, tie it to bike etc. And when not in use, it comes on and off in about 2 minutes with one 7/16 wrench. We just crushed the market on ease and price! Brilliant!  And we saved my checking account about $250. When it comes to things I know I can do, I do them but not without a lot of guidance on this one thanks to Rebel! Oh, what is the one trade I have mastered?  My career started at 15 so I would have to say radio even thought I was a certified welder right out of High School. Casey James ROCKED the Aggie Theatre in Ft. Collins on Tuesday night.  The former American Idol third runner-up in 2010 showed his Country/Blues/Rock sides throughout the night.  He’s an accomplished guitar player… and has the best hair in the business!  Casey kicked off the night with his new single “The Good Life” and also played his big hit “Cryin’ On A Suitcase”.  Find out more about Casey James here:      http://www.caseyjamesofficial.com/home

The 80′s!  What a great time for those of us who blossomed during one of the best decades ever.  Hair bands, ET and things you wish never happened, like New Kids on the Block.  Ya, I could have done without that!

When you think about it, the 80′s defined iconic pop culture! Big hair, slang powerhouse, the invention of modern day video gaming systems, every show on TV was family oriented (Cosby Show, Charles in Charge etc.) and technology you couldn’t keep up with. (Now it can all fit in your pocket.)

Now we get to relive it all, minus the big hair, unless you own a wig.  So throw on your best throwback 80′s outfit and come hang with us at the Qdoba Ultimate 80′s Party Saturday March 30th at the Sunset Events Center in Fort Collins.

We’ll also be handing out prizes for biggest hair, 80′s celebrity look alike, lip synch contest and of course best costume/outfit. Sound like fun?  It is!

Tickets are only $25 and $5 goes right back to Ram-Strength to help fight cancer in Ram Country.  Your ticket price also gets you a couple free beers, a late night Qdoba buffet and the traditional “photo booth” sponsored by Aire Serv in Fort Collins.

The ‘featured’ photo on this article was me at about 15 or 16 and starting the long hair stage and when I say long hair, it was down past the butt long.  Crazy days for sure. The other pics are from the mid and late 80′s.

An icy dip for a horse ended well, thankfully. Indian Hills Fire Rescue and Evergreen Fire Rescue rescued a horse from a pond near Evergreen on Saturday morning. The pond at Parmalee Gulch Road was in the horse’s corral and the animal decided to walk onto the ice, which broke under the horse’s weight. The horse’s owner spotted her and called 911 and animal control. A vet examined the horse for injuries at the scene.

“The horse appeared to be very tired, cold and was in distress,” said Lt. Stacee Montague with Evergreen Fire Rescue.

The 2012 Colorado Broadcaster’s Associations Awards of excellence were held, Saturday, March 9th, 2013 at the Denver Marriott Tech Center. K99 won 2 Awards of Excellence and 2 Certificates of Merit, which is really 2nd place.

The weather kept many people away from the ceremony, including a few of own.  One of the highlights of the evening for me was the keynote speaker, Denver Mayor Michael Hancock. The best part was he kept his speech short.

Between K99 and our sister stations we were honored 6 times on Saturday night.

The IKEA store in Denver is actually in Centennial, Just north of I-25 and County Line Road.  It is the biggest store of any kind I have ever seen in my entire life.  It’s enormous! It’s gigantic! It’s ginormous!

My wife Jenny and I went to the Colorado Broadcaster’s Awards on Saturday night and spent the night at the Denver Tech Center Marriott.  We weren’t very far from the IKEA store, so we decided to check it out on Sunday morning.  Jenny had been there before with her mother, but this was my first time.  I was an IKEA Virgin.

WOW!  When I say this place is big, I mean BIG!  It has it’s own parking garage that is just as big as the ones at DIA.   It has everything you could possibly want or need to set up the inside of a house, all in one colossal building.  It’s like walking through a giant labyrinth. Needless to say, I was impressed.

I’m not even going to talk about all the cool stuff they had, I just wanted to share a few pictures I took to show you how big it is…and yes we did buy a couple things.  We now have a new doormat so you have something to wipe your feet on if you come to visit us and my wife bought some magazine organizers. She likes to keep her old knitting and crocheting magazines. But seriously, they have everything.

The band Due West blew everyone away Thursday night at the Boot Grill in Loveland a part of the K99 “New from Nashville” . They are perhaps the best harmonizing band in all of country music and they brought a capacity crowd to their feet with and amazing performance last night.

These are the same guys who were so gracious to donate their time and talents for the Make It Rain Concert to benefit the victims of the High Park Fire back in July.  That night their version of the National Anthem sent chills up all of our spines.

Last night the chills returned as their perfect harmonies filled the Boot Grill.  My wife Jenny took a ton of pictures during the show. I am sharing a few of my favorites.

Friday was Read Across America Day.  It usually falls on Dr. Seuss’ birthday, but this year that was during the weekend. (Saturday, March 2nd) Every year Brian and I like to read in a school or two to celebrate the holiday.

We started out reading at Scott Elementary in Greeley, which has become a tradition for us.  I read “If I Ran The Zoo”, while Brian acted out the story for 3 classes of 5th graders.  This year we only got through the one book before I time was up.

I then ventured out on my own to Laurel Elementary in Fort Collins. I read in 4 different classrooms. The kindergarten teachers were Mrs. Michelle Arnold, Mrs. Emily Anderson, Ms. Sue Simmons and Miss Miriam Cromley. The first grade teachers were Mrs. Stacy Hoban and Mrs. Michelle Vandever. I even sang and danced for one class.

I took along my camera and several different teachers and teacher’s aides snapped some photos for me.

And the Answer is… a Sushi Roller!

That’s right, the thingy ma-bob is used to roll sushi. Taylor was so excited, she forgot to add her seaweed, but her roll, filled with spicy tuna, jalapenos and I think everything else on the prep plate (prepped by Nick).

The Sushi roll on the left is the one from the Sushi roll maker, not bad Taylor!

Fort Collins Police Chief John Hutto and Poudre Fire Authority Fire Chief Tom DeMint were joined by a bunch of Fort Collins Police employees in the annual Polar Plunge fundraiser benefiting Special Olympics Colorado on February 9th. The group jumped in the cold waters of the Boulder Reservoir on a morning when the air temperature barely reached 32 degrees, but they raised over $2000 dollars for the athletes.

Teams from the Larimer County Sheriff’s Department and the Larimer County District Attorney’s Office also participated in the Polar Plunge.

Special Olympics of Colorado provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

Brian and I did something similar to this a few years ago. We jumped into a giant fish tank at a boat show and swam with an enormous catfish. Wish we would have raised money for charity that day. Ours was just torture with no benefit. I took a picture of Brian getting out of the tank from my scrapbook, so the quality is not fantastic, but here is a look back.
